One of the great and early features with News Articles for DotNetNuke is the ability to protect the contents of an article. This is perfect for a DotNetNuke website that wants to sell membership access to the content of their articles (like www.dnncreative.com which has been using news articles since 2005).
News Articles allows you to display a summary of an article and if they are not in the requisite roles they are denied access and redirected to any url you specify (e.g. a purchase page).
Securing an article is relatively straightforward. On the create article screen, check the "Secure" checkbox in the publish section.
Specifying which roles can access secured articles
So now that you have setup your first secured article, this will stop people from accessing your articles without being in particular roles.
You can specify the secure roles in admin options -> main options -> security settings -> secure permission
In the case below, I've given the secure permission to the subscribers role.
The secure url that I have specified below the grid will redirect people without the secure permission to that url (excluding admins).
